Self-help books can be really interesting if you like getting motivated, regardless of whether you act on the advice or not. That’s why, I’ve dived into these books and really taken a close look at them.
Of course they’re good books, no doubt about it. People will tell you to read novels and everything else EXCEPT self-help books. Why? It’s because they believe these books repeat the same thing over, and over again in different ways.
Well, good advice has always been there. You hear it, you’ll remember a lot of it probably. But reminders are good, they revisit the principles that can help you look back and find a sense of relief in life.
You can argue with that, but that’s not the point here. Self-help books can act like they’re rule books. Rules are important. If you want discipline, rules are vital. And discipline is vital. Sounds like a bit of self-help huh? Well, be that as it may but for staying afloat at the least, you have to be disciplined.
But it’s equally important to read a variety of material so that you’re not just closing yourself off from everything else. That’s not helpful.
In the end, read what you like, and also read what you don’t particularly enjoy but can be beneficial. Literature, history, spirituality, business, technology, and need I say, the news.
